Sync Bar

Acceptance of terms

By downloading, installing, or using Sync Bar, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the application.

License grant

Strategic Nerds grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use Sync Bar on your Mac for personal or business purposes.

Description of service

Sync Bar is a macOS menu bar application that transcribes your reMarkable handwritten notes and syncs the text to destinations you choose, such as Notion, Linear, Google Docs, Apple Notes, or Markdown files. The application connects directly to your reMarkable account and your chosen destinations and processes data on your Mac.

User responsibilities

You are responsible for:

  • Pairing the application with your reMarkable account and authorizing your destinations
  • Using the application in compliance with the terms of service of reMarkable and each destination you connect
  • Supplying your own API key if you choose to use OpenAI or Anthropic for transcription
  • Ensuring your Mac meets the minimum system requirements
  • Maintaining the security of your device

Authentication and authorization

Sync Bar uses OAuth to connect to Notion, Linear, and Google, and a one-time device code to pair with reMarkable. This means:

  • You authorize access directly with each provider
  • We never see or store your passwords
  • You can revoke access at any time through each provider's security settings

No warranty

Sync Bar is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. We do not guarantee that the application will be error-free, secure, or continuously available.

We make no warranties regarding:

  • The accuracy of handwriting transcription
  • Uninterrupted access to reMarkable or any destination
  • Compatibility with all configurations or future API changes

The reMarkable cloud is not officially documented for third-party apps. Sync Bar relies on a reverse-engineered interface that may change without notice.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Strategic Nerds is not liable for any damages arising from your use of Sync Bar, including but not limited to:

  • Missed, delayed, duplicated, or inaccurate syncs
  • Service interruptions
  • Loss of notes or content
  • Any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages

Third-party services

Sync Bar connects to reMarkable, and to Notion, Linear, Google, OpenAI, or Anthropic when you enable them. We are not responsible for:

  • Their availability, functionality, or API changes
  • Their data handling practices
  • Any changes to their terms of service

You must comply with each provider's terms of service when using Sync Bar.

Updates and modifications

We may update Sync Bar from time to time to add features, fix bugs, or adapt to API changes. We may also modify these terms. Continued use of the application after changes constitutes acceptance of the modified terms.

Termination

You may stop using Sync Bar at any time by:

  • Disconnecting your destinations and unpairing reMarkable
  • Uninstalling the application

We may discontinue the application or restrict your access if you violate these terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of the United States.
