Where your books are
A book is a folder. Each chapter is a Markdown file with your prose in it, and book.json and spine.json hold the title, the author, and the reading order.
The library lives in iCloud Drive under Recto. Open it in Finder on a Mac or in the Files app on an iPhone or iPad. Recto > Settings > Files shows the location and lets you move it.
Every file in that folder opens in any text editor.
The cover
The Book ends with the cover. Choose a picture, a color or two, or the cover Recto draws for the book. A picture is saved as cover.jpg in the book's folder and goes into the EPUB when you export.
Syncing between devices
Keep the library in iCloud Drive. Your books sync between Macs, iPhones, and iPads signed in to the same Apple Account.
If a book looks out of date, check that iCloud Drive is turned on for Recto in System Settings or iOS Settings, and that the device has been online since the last change.
If you edit the same paragraph on two devices while one of them is offline, Recto keeps both versions on the page and marks the newer one with a placeholder.
Getting your words out
File > Export gives you EPUB, Word, PDF, Markdown, HTML, or plain text. The EPUB is built to what Kindle Direct Publishing expects.
The tip
Recto is free. The tip in the menu unlocks nothing. You can leave it as often as you like.

What Recto sends
Recto records which features get used and when it crashes. It sends no text. The privacy policy has the details.
