Common questions

How do I add a link?

Press ⇧⌘L (or click the chain icon in your menu bar) to open the popover, then click the + button at the bottom. You can also open the main window and use the "Add link" button in the group header.

How do I create a group?

Open the main window, hover over the GROUPS section in the sidebar, and click the + button. ⌘N from the main window also creates a new group.

Can I reorder my links and groups?

Yes. Drag the row by anywhere on the link card, or by the group's row in the sidebar, to reorder. Cross-group moves work too.

Can I pick a custom icon for a link or group?

Yes. In the Add/Edit Link sheet there's an Icon section with hundreds of SF Symbols and a tint picker. To change a group's icon, click the folder badge next to the group name in the sidebar (or in the group's detail view header). The Revert button drops back to the favicon (links) or the default folder symbol (groups).

Where are my links stored?

Locally on your Mac. If you are signed in to iCloud, Link Opener also syncs your links and groups across your other Macs through Apple's iCloud Key-Value Store. See the privacy policy for details.

How do I copy a link's URL?

Hover over the link row (in the popover or the main window) and click the copy icon. The URL is placed on the clipboard.

Can I import or export my links?

Yes. Settings → Backup & Sync has Export and Import options. Backups are written as JSON.

How do I edit or delete a link?

Hover over the link in the main window and click the pencil to edit or the trash icon to delete.

Can I change the keyboard shortcut?

Yes. Settings → Keyboard Shortcut lets you record a different combination for the global "Show Link Opener" hotkey (default ⇧⌘L).

How do updates work?

Link Opener uses Sparkle to check for updates once a day. You can also trigger a check from the menu-bar status item's right-click menu or from Settings → Updates.
