Privacy Policy - Command Center

Overview

Command Center is a Chrome new tab extension that runs entirely in your browser. This policy explains how it handles your data, including data from Google accounts you choose to connect. The short version: Command Center has no server, no account, and collects nothing about you. Strategic Nerds never sees your data and has no way to know who you are.

What we collect

Nothing. There is no Strategic Nerds server in the middle, no analytics, and no tracking. Command Center does not send your data to us, and it does not share or sell your data to anyone.

How Command Center uses Google user data

Connecting a Google account is optional. If you connect one, Command Center reads a small amount of Google data so it can show your calendar and tasks on your new tab page. This section describes exactly what it accesses, how it uses that data, and how it is stored, in line with the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

Google data accessed

When you connect a Google account, Command Center requests these OAuth scopes:

openid and https://www.googleapis.com/auth/userinfo.email: your email address, used to label the connection and to refresh the connection quietly for the right account.
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/calendar.readonly: read-only access to your Google Calendar events, so it can display your upcoming events.
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/tasks.readonly: read-only access to your Google Tasks lists, so it can display your tasks.

All Google scopes are read-only. Command Center cannot create, edit, or delete anything in your Google account.

How this data is used

Command Center uses your Google data for one purpose only: to display your own calendar events and tasks to you on your new tab page. Your email address is used only to label the connection in the app and to renew access silently for that account. The data is fetched directly from Google's APIs to your browser, shown on the page, and used for nothing else. It is not used for advertising, profiling, or training any model.

How this data is shared

Command Center does not share your Google user data with anyone. It is never sent to a Strategic Nerds server, never sold, and never transferred to any third party. Each request goes straight from your browser to Google over HTTPS and the response comes straight back to your browser.

How this data is stored and protected

The Google access token that authorizes these requests is stored in your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local) on your device. It is not included in Chrome sync, so it never leaves the machine where you connected the account. Requests to Google are always made over HTTPS. Your calendar events and tasks are fetched when your new tab loads, shown on the page, and are not saved to any server; they persist only in your browser as ordinary web page and cache data.

How to review, retain, or delete this data

You control this data at all times:

Remove the Google connection in the edit pane to delete its stored access token from your device.
Uninstall the extension to remove everything Command Center stored, including any Google tokens.
Revoke Command Center's access to your Google account at any time from your Google Account permissions page at myaccount.google.com/permissions.

Because Command Center keeps no copy of your Google data on any server, there is nothing for us to retain or delete on our side. Removing the connection or uninstalling the extension deletes the local token, and revoking access at Google cuts off future requests.

Where your settings live

Your settings, such as your time zones, data cards, themes, and ticker choices, are stored with Chrome's storage on your device and in your Chrome sync. They follow you between your own Chrome browsers and never reach a Strategic Nerds server.

Your accounts and keys

The tokens and keys you add, such as a Linear token, a Notion secret, or a Google sign-in token, are stored in your browser's local storage on your device. They are never synced and never leave your machine. Google sign-in uses Google's own flow, so Command Center never sees your password.

Services Command Center connects to

Command Center talks only to the services you choose to connect, each over HTTPS, and only to show that data to you on your new tab:

Google Calendar and Google Tasks
Notion, Linear, GitHub, and Todoist
Finnhub and Frankfurter for stock quotes and currency rates
Hacker News and the news feeds you pick
Open-Meteo for weather
Unsplash for optional wallpaper photos
Google's favicon service for small site icons

Each request goes straight from your browser to the service. The data comes back to your browser and is shown on the page. It is never routed through us and is never stored anywhere except your own browser.

Your control

You are in control of your data at all times:

Remove a connection in the edit pane to delete its stored token or key
Change or clear your settings in the edit pane at any time
Uninstall the extension to remove everything Command Center stored

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will note significant changes here.
